*hmms* So a few days ago, a friend of mine made me aware of this little free game called Mabinogi.. I checked it out and it really looked like a game which I’d love to play, but.. And here is where the shitty reality hits you square in the face, they only allow people from North America to play..
Now isn’t that just great.. *chuckles* Here they get me all worked up for a great game and I cannot even play it.. Oh, and do they list it on their web page, so you at least don’t have to download and install their game just to find out that you cannot play it ??
Noooo, they actually allow you to download and install it, only to find out when you connect that you cannot login due to “Not a Service Area” error. Then you have to google and check out their forums to see that only NA citizens are allowed to play the game..
Yea, maybe I should have read the TOS and the forum before I downloaded the game, but honestly how many of us take time to do that, when we see a game and want to play it ?? What did I hear ? None.. Well, there we have it..
*kicks Mabinogi’s developers square in the balls* (Sorry for the obvious quote)..
Well.. Sorry all but I just had to get this off the chest.. I wont link to the site here, because I don’t really want to support anyone who forces people to live certain places, just to do certain things, but if you really are interested, you can just Google for Mabinogi and I am very sure that you’ll find it..

Hell, I’m a US citizen living in England on a US Air Force base and even I’m blocked. Its pretty lame, I was really looking forward to playing it as well.
Sadly they’ve already addressed using a routing proxy to give yourself a US ip address too, and it no longer works. I need to find a loophole. :\

Hey Ryan..
Thanks for taking the time to write a comment here on my blog. I am sorry to hear that they have found a way to detect who is using a proxy to connect to their services, the only other loophole that I can suggest is to try and find an transparent proxy..
A transparent proxy is a lot harder to detect (in some instances impossible) because the proxy doesn’t expose itself at all, so the only way to defend against that, is to find all the US proxies and block their IP one at a time and I doubt that they will go to those lengths..
But you never know..
Please if you find another loophole, you shall be welcome to email me about it, I’d love to hear.
