I have been wanting to write about Furries and Furry Fandom for quite a while now, the reasons behind why I want to write about Furries is mostly due to the fact that I consider myself to be a Furry..

Now there are many people that sees the word Furries, Furry or Furry Fandom and immediately yells out quite a few profanities about Sexuality and Beastiality, this, I believe, is mostly due to a false view or coloured view of Furries in general..

Yes there are some alternative sexualities inside the Furry Fandom and while many people consider said sexualities to be morally wrong or just plain disgusting is, in my eyes, up to the individual.

Though I will say that there are many “normal” people inside the Furry Fandom which just has a common interest, namely Anthropomorphic Animal Characters. There are also some people for which the Furry Fandom is a more spiritual thing than it is anything else, I am one of those people.

Now I wont go into the Spirituality of Furries, I will save that for another post, I just used it as an example that now all Furries are alike.

Yes, there are some in the Furry Fandom that will probably set the Furry Fandom in a bad light with the “rest of the world” but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t many many good people and friends to be found inside the Furry Fandom..

Many would probably have started this post with an “What is a Furry” side, but I do not believe that I am better than anyone else to answer that question, so therefore I will just provide you with a quote from WikiFur:

The word furry has several meanings, dependent on the context in which it is used. Predominantly, it pertains to an interest in anthropomorphic animals and/or mythological or imaginary creatures which possess human or superhuman capabilities. The plural form of furry in all its contexts is furs or furries; the subjects of furry interest are also known as furries.

That is more the definition of the word Furry but that is also the most correct answer to the above question in my mind.. Others would probably also ask “What does it mean to be a furry” and again just for completeness I will use another quote from WikiFur:

Someone who says they are furry is generally expressing an interest in anthropomorphic animals and/or creatures.
Unfavourable attention from the media has created a negative stereotype of a furry. Contrary to how a Furry is portrayed in pop culture and mass media, how deep or meaningful an interest in Furry is varies greatly from person to person. Also, the breadth of a person’s interest in the fandom, and what ultimately makes them furry, is specific to each individual. Below is a list of common interests with which a fur is likely to identify. A furry may be interested in any or all of them, to any degree.

That explains it a lot better than I could ever do.

The Furry Fandom has so many nuances because it describes such a large group of people, that I think it’s wrong and ignorant to label all Furries as being horny perverts that molest animals. I am sorry if that offends anyone but I had to be said really, because of the many many times I’ve been verbally abused or physically threatened just due to being a Furry..
What is the next step ? Gas chambers ?

Sorry.. Enough of my ranting for now.. I don’t know what else I can say on the subject, though I will write another post soon which is a bit more personal in the sense that I will write about what it means, for me, to be a Furry and how I became to be a Furry..
